簡要說明

寶馬R1200S的出現就是為了取代99年登場的BMW R1100S，當時更被喻為BMW家族之中最快的boxer引擎車款。

外觀方面，車架亦是BMW R1200S的特色之處，採用了三件式設計，前及中段用鋼管綑桿車架，至于后方的副架則用上鋁合金製作。副架的設計是易于著脫，也就是方便了炒車后更換配件。前懸掛用上41mm的Telelever連桿，使用了鍛造鋁合金連桿而提升了剛性。尾懸掛當然是招牌的EVO Paralever連桿，配上的是單筒彈簧。車尾用上的是單邊搖臂，配合直軸傳動的設計，令尾部線條更為簡潔，加上旋風式的輪圈叫人更加喜愛。其實全車的線條都極為統一地簡潔，尾喉收納于座鞍下，車頭經油缸至鴨尾的線條幾近以一幅過設計，前指揮燈亦藏到后鏡之上。為保持纖巧，座鞍下的儲物空間欠奉。

動力方面，搭載水平雙缸引擎，擁有著122匹的最大馬力，加上190公斤的凈重，可以想像到這個力重比之下隱藏著的是多麼靈巧的身段。引擎的燃油噴嘴有52毫米大，比其他家族成員還大了5毫米。盤頂經過改良，令尾段表現更出色。引擎內部經過改動有更高表現，閥門引簧變得更硬，活塞也被重新打造，其他部件如引擎內搖臂亦被強化。再配以12.5的高壓縮比，這些設定都是以運動化為基礎的。
