簡要說明	大眾在上海車展發布了全新一代甲殼蟲之后，性能版甲殼蟲R終于在本次法蘭克福車展也發布亮相。作為大眾性能版車型，甲殼蟲R使用了更強的動力以及更為運動化的外觀設計。在外形上，甲殼蟲R做了更多夸張的改進。前臉、側裙以及尾部保險杠都更為粗大，進氣口也十分寬大，形成了更為激進的造型。車頂涂裝稱了黑色，車尾還使用了更大的尾翼。甲殼蟲R將會搭載2.0T渦輪增壓發動機，但是與高爾夫R所使用的動力調校不同，甲殼蟲R的最大功率為237馬力，比高爾夫R略低。甲殼蟲R仍將使用前置前驅布局，不過懸掛和底盤將會得到更為運動的調校。盡管目前并沒有詳細的官方信息說明，但從現場車型來看，輪轂更大，同時車身底盤也更為低矮。
