三菱i-MiEV是一款純電動車。它的車身小巧玲瓏圓潤可愛，而且沒有突出的車頭和尾廂，最小轉彎半徑僅為4.5米，在擁擠的城市停車場停車泊位顯得相當便利。為了適應這樣的車身造型，這款車的頭燈和尾燈都采用了立式設計，呈長柱形立在車身兩側。i-MiEV的側面明顯要圓潤許多，四輪四角式設計也是這一級別小車慣用的設計方式。
三菱i-MiEV采用的是中后置布局后輪驅動的平臺， 長軸距設計使其可容納大容量鋰離子電池，而且馬達、變頻器、充電器和其他的電動汽車部件均可安裝在行李廂下部空間。這些處于低位的大重量部件可以降低汽車重心，使汽車獲得更高的穩定性，同時車內具有寬敞的駕乘空間和行李空間。
動力部分，三菱 i-MiEV采用的是三菱Y4F1電動機，最大功率64馬力，最大扭矩180牛米。從數據上看，功率相當于一款1.1升的自然吸氣汽油發動機，而扭矩則相當于2.0升發動機的水平，這也是符合電動機大扭矩的特性。
i-MiEV既可對應一般家庭等地方使用普通的100V/200V電源，又可在外出時利用三相200V電源在短時間內進行快速充電。利用100V家用電源充電時的充電時間為14小時，200V時為7小時。另外，三菱公司與幾家電力公司合作開發的快速充電系統，能夠在30分鐘內充滿80%的電量。這款小車一次充滿電大約能行駛150公里。
