簡要說明	1976年，美國汽車公司推出了CJ-7，這是Jeep設計方面二十年來的第一次重大變化。CJ-7的軸距比CJ-5略長，從而為自動變速箱提供空間。CJ-7首次提供了選裝的模注塑料車頂和鋼制車門。軸距為93.5英寸的CJ-7和軸距為83.5英寸的CJ-5都一直生產到1983年，當時，對CJ-7的需求使美國汽車公司別無選擇，只能放棄已經投產30年的CJ-5。 1976年，AMC終于推出了全新的CJ-7，較CJ-5更長的軸距可以容納下自動變速箱，舒適性進一步提高。同時出現的還有玻璃鋼頂蓬、金屬車門和空調系統等，更重要的是Quadra-Trac四驅系統的應用。一經上市便引起來軒然大波，以至于CJ-7一舉成為了最成功的CJ車型，十年的銷量接近38萬輛。所有的Jeep CJ都裝配了美國汽車公司制造的304或360立體英寸排量的V8發動機。美國汽車公司為CJ-5和CJ-6采用了更重的車橋、更大的制動器和更寬的輪距。
