簡要說明	法拉利F1的這一新版車型于1954年4月11日在錫拉庫扎（Syracuse）汽車大獎賽上首次亮相。它是625的替代車型，裝備的是短沖程發動機，還采納了在553 F2車型上研發的其他改進技術。圓形車身上有一個特別的進氣口，因此記者們給它取了一個外號叫“鯊魚”。 1954年出臺的F1新規定限制了非增壓式發動機的最大排量為2.5升，而增壓式發動機則為750毫升。553 F1搭載的2.5升發動機最大功率260馬力，與之相匹配的是4擋手動變速箱，這也使得這款車的極速可達280公里/小時。 1954年賽季完全是胡安•曼紐爾•方吉奧（Juan Manuel Fangio）的天下，他先是代表瑪莎拉蒂、爾后又代表梅賽德斯參賽。賽季結束時，法拉利獲得兩次勝利：分別由干沙里斯（Gonzalez）和豪索恩（Hawthorn）（駕駛625）在銀石賽道獲得第一名和第二名，然后在巴塞羅那由同一名英國車手奪冠，這次他駕駛的是553 F1。
