簡要說明	對于捷豹來說，這是他們回歸勒芒的最為偉大且具有里程碑意義的賽車。而對于勒芒來說，XJR-9把C組賽事正式推向了巔峰。早于1987年捷豹就敢于站出來與保時捷叫板了。這是因為他們有史上最偉大的勒芒賽車之一——XJR-9，此車在當時渦輪增壓引擎的圍攻下特立獨行地采用了NA引擎，而著名的Silk Cut涂裝版在當年的WSC中豪奪六次勝利，并于同年成功遏制住962C強大的勢頭。次年，XJR-9便將962C一舉反超完全壓制住了后者，并為捷豹重返勒芒巔峰奠定基礎。 1988年，參與賽事的車被進一步改良，升級為采用 7.0 升發動機的XJR-9。多年以來，保時捷一直稱霸勒芒賽事，但捷豹在那年的賽事中，憑借超過5輛XJR-9LM車的投入而成功奪得了反擊戰的勝利，捧回了車手和車隊獎杯，這是50年代5部捷豹車大獲全勝之后的又一次重大勝利。
