簡要說明

灣流公司前身格魯曼飛機公司生產。20世紀50年代初期，格魯曼飛機公司發現市場需要行政機，便著手開始研制上單翼的S2“追蹤者”反潛機的衍生機型，但計劃失敗，隨后根據客戶要求在1957年繼續研制改進，形成后來采用下單翼布局的“灣流”I，初定名為G159。 

1958年8月14日首飛。由于未按正常程序進行，首飛過程中飛機故障，在空中燃油系統關閉，飛機進行了緊急迫降。

1959年10月開始投入運營。截止1969年停產，共生產200架，目前仍有超過100架的“灣流”I在使用中。
