2005年，寶馬推出了E60平臺上的第四代M5，全新的寶馬m5是世界首部搭載高轉速V10發動機的量產車型，結合全球首創的smg drivelogic七速序列式手排變速箱，讓第四代寶馬M5擁有4.7秒內完成百公里時速加速。最大扭矩為520牛米，最大功率輸出為507馬力。
